"What are the five greatest games of all time?"
My list (in no specific order):
1. Bridge [mother of all card games]
2. Pac-Man [first big "race-against-machine-to-inevitable-death-game"]
3. Hide n Go Seek [anyone never play this game?]
4. Madden Football [I'd probably have to ditch this one for chess...]
5. Cricket [baseball's better, but cricket came first!]
My list is not definitive, as I already said, I would have to get chess up there and am not in love with cricket.
Also, I interpreted "greatest" as "influential, important."
Responses? Let the persuasion begin...

In no specific order:
1) Duck Hunt
Out of my top five, this would probably be the only one that really deserves to be considered "great". Never before could you shoot at your TV without having to buy a new one.
2) Bombardment (dodgeball)
This was actually banned in my middle school. It's basically the same as dodgeball but you can't let the ball touch you at all (that means you can't catch it). Also (not sure if this is in dodgeball), if the ball hits someone or another ball and hits someone else, that person is out. The ball isn't 'dead' until it hits the ground. Also, the best part, once our PE teacher got bored, he would call no boundries, which is self explanatory.
3) Euchre
Does not apply to you if you aren't from Indiana, for some reason.
4) Chess
I felt compelled to change one of mine to chess. Amazing game.
5) Roller Coaster Tycoon
Another amazing game. For those who didn't know, this game came out when we were all in 7th grade or so. You got to design theme parks and rides and whatnot. It was this very game, and an article about six flags, that led me to want to be a mech. engineer, which, with a trip to space camp, led me to want to be an aero. engineer...
Long story short, this game is the reason I am at purdue, which makes it "great".
Now for some thoughtful discussion:
Great is such a generic word. Most of us, guaranteed, changed the word "great" for "favorite". In other words, the "Greatest" games of our own lives, past to present.
It will be interesting to see some of our picks.
We are considering greatness by being traditional; something that’s been around for a while and that has been passed down through the generations (some exceptions apply).
A game is something played with 1 or more people that have a set of rules that must be followed. Sometimes at the end there are winners and there are losers, depending on the type of game and whose rules you are playing by. It can be played for the purposes of learning, leisure, and just to have fun.

After debating which games are the top five “best” we have come up with the following:
1. Hide-and-go-seek
This is one of the best games because most of us grew up playing it and what makes it fun is the anticipation of getting caught and trying to find everyone.
2. Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt (the original Nintendo)
I mean come on, the game had a gun to shoot ducks with and also it was fun trying to save the queen from the big green monster. At the end of each level you even sometimes got fireworks…that was the best.
3. Dodgeball
Throwing a hard rubber ball at someone and not getting in trouble, that was the whole point of the game, was awesome. It left welts and red marks but who cares, it was fun and you got plenty of exercise from it.
4. Euchre
Like Dylan said, it’s an Indiana thing. We don’t know why but I guess it just is. No matter whether you’re at home with some friends or at a party on the weekend, there’s usually always somebody who bursts out “Anyone up for a game of Euchre?”
5. Twister
Anyone could be a body contortionist with this game. Not only fun but it helped you learn your colors and your left from right! (lol) Now they have even come out with a water twister where the mat is plugged into a water hose and water (can I say that word anymore?) comes out of the colored circles. I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t play this game when I was a young child so not only are we now grown up playing this but adding water and appendages??...that’s a little suggestive.

There are many ways to define "greatest, fun and game" and their definitions will differ from person to person. Personally, i define a game as giving somebody a reason to compete with another to achieve a common goal within a set of predetermined rules. I consider fun to be any kind of happiness or euphoric state induced during the game, whether it be from adrenaline, laughter, intoxication, etc. I define "greatest of all time" as the games that bring about the most "fun" for a person of my age and physical capabilities. Having said all that jibber jabber, here is my list:
1) Spin the bottle (yes even as an 18 year old, i still love the game.. Who wouldn't, its an excuse to kiss a girl)
2) Drink the beer (while i have never played the game, i hear good things...)
3) Hide and go Seek (good adrenaline rush, easy to play, incorporates a lot of people etc etc)
4) Dodgeball (same as #3)
5) Scum (this is a card game that is played with 5 or 6 people. The rules are a tad complicated, which is why it's 5 and not 2 or 1, but it is worth it.. Especially if you combine this game with game #2)
When talking about games, I would say that "greatest" would be defined as "most fun."
1) Beer Pong
What a fun game. You throw a ball and trying to make it into cups. The best games of beer pong are when you let them make a lot of your cups and then you beat them at the end. That way you get to drink a lot and you get to play again.
2) 7-11-Doubles
Another fun drinking game played with dice.
NOTE: Just because my top 2 games are drinking games does not mean I am an alcoholic!
3) Dodgeball
Every Friday in gym class in Jr. High we would play Dodgeball. Yes, it hurt, but, like the girls below said, you can let go of your anger by throwing bballs at people and not get in trouble for it.
4) Texas Hold 'Em
A variation of Poker where each player has two cards face down and five cards are placed face-up for everyone to use. This game has become very popular within the last few years and is a lot of fun, especially when you make a lot of money.
5) Capture the Flag
In my neighborhood everyone has pretty big yards and many of them run together, so we had a lot of room to run around. Capture the Flag was am ideal game for us to play. Two teams hide their flags, and you have to find the opponent's flag whithout getting tagged.
I figured I should clarify what 7-11-Doubles is. Not very many people have heard of it.
You need 3 or more people (or play heads up if you don't want to remember anything the next day), two dice, a glass, and some beer.
One person starts off by rolling the two dice. If he rolls a 7, and 11, or doubles, then he chooses someone to drink and pours some beer (however much you want) into their cup. Once the cup is touched by the other person the roller starts rolling. The person may use a towel to move the cup closer to them. If another 7, 11, or double is rolled before the glass is empty, then another glass is poured for them. If a 7, 11, or double is not rolled, then the dice are given to the next person and play continues.
It is a really fun game. You all should try it sometime.
First of all -- A would have to be an activity of competitive nature, that is intended for enjoyment. To define "greatest" may be a little harder. When I first listed my games, I didn't interpret the word as "influential, or important". If that's the case, then my list would not apply to the definition. I defined "greatest" as games that were most enjoyable to me, growing up. So - my list is as follows:
1)Speed {basketball version} (This game could define competitive. Adrenaline definitely gets going, and the game can get pretty addictive as well.)
2)Scattegories (Alright, this one may sound weird. I've learned that in some situations, it can provide some comic relief. Some of the replies get ridiculous.)
3) Charades (Good for if you have a big group of people...or if you want to laugh at the stupidity of others?)
4) Poker (So many people know how to play, it's easy to get a game started in a crowd of people. There are numerous types, also...)
5) Neighborhood capture the flag (...and it has to be neighborhood. There's nothing better than getting an entire neighborhood involved in a sneaky, fast paced game in the wee hours of the night.)
